At SURC we take pride in our long standing commitment to giving back to the local community. Our fundraising and volunteering efforts have consistently brought about a positive impact on Sheffield and its residents.

As a club we are committed to making a difference through our fundraising efforts. Our standout initiative is our annual “12 Days of Christmas” charity event. During this event, which spans 12 days, our members engage in a wide range of activities to raise funds for local charities, with Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity at the forefront of our support. These activities include challenging 24-hour row-a-thons, sponsored waxing events, charity quiz nights, and gruelling cycle rides in the Peaks. We take pride in knowing that the funds we raise are dedicated to supporting the vital work of Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity and bringing joy to our local community.

FUNDRAISING

VOLUNTEERING

Our commitment to community involvement goes beyond fundraising. SURC actively engages with the community through a variety of volunteering initiatives. We’ve built strong partnerships with local schools and organisations, offering voluntary workshops and PE sessions. These sessions introduce children, including those with disabilities and specific special needs, to the world of rowing and physical activity, ensuring that sports and physical activities are accessible to all.

In addition, our members are actively involved in various community projects. Among these we collaborate with Holly Hagg Alpaca Farm, providing essential manual labour to support their own charity work of providing free alpaca walks to patients of The Children’s Hospital. We also participate in regular blood donations, contribute to local residential homes by spending quality time with the elderly, and support food banks through both donations and volunteer efforts.

Our work has been recognised by the University and Sports Sheffield in recent years, consistently being shortlisted for the Volunteering & Community Outreach Award and the Fundraising Initiative Award.
