Henley Women's Regatta 2021

Our Senior Women’s squad sent two boats to Henley Women’s Regatta this year, a coxless four in the Aspirational Academic category and double in the Aspirational category.

The 4- raced the time trial for placing into side by side races, as there were a lower number of entries this year. In a powerful time trial, they placed 4th, setting themselves up for a good seeding into the next race.

On Saturday, they were up against Oxford Brookes, in what turned out to be a very dramatic race, with the Sheffield crew leading off the start and for the majority of the race. After a strong start, Sheffield gained a half a length lead by 100m and held the lead for the first 1K. A small error with a stroke knocked the rhythm slightly and Brookes took advantage and made a push for the line. Brookes managed to overtake and cross the line first. An amazing effort from the Sheffield crew who gave Brookes’ BUCS medal winners a real run for their money. A race that will go down in the history books.

The 2x raced strongly in the time trial, despite having only rowed together for a week. They unfortunately just missed out on a spot in the side by side racing by a matter of seconds in a very competitive category.
