BUCS Indoors 2018

SURC had a great time in York on Saturday, with members of all four squads taking part in BUCS Indoors.

After a rocky start for the senior men at Dee Head 2 weeks ago, BUCS indoors proved a great success for the squad with the relay team (Sam Armistead, Matt Farrow, John Gunton and Luke Green) easily achieving a gold medal in a competitive field. In the individual events, our senior men picked up a bronze medal in the lightweight 2km championship (Matt Farrow) as well as 3 of our athletes placing in the top 10 of the open 2km championship. Within the squad we saw a large number of PBs which is promising this early in the season. We hope to carry this success forward to our race at York small boats head next weekend.

- Shaun Colley, SM Captain

Once again our Senior Women’s squad showed their excellence this weekend in York. The ladies put in a smashing performance with notable mentions of Emily Butler and Abi Thompson finishing 1st and 3rd in the lightweights respectively, and the relay team (Sarah Prescott-Smith, Molly Garner, Ellie Baimbridge and Ghislaine Hertzog) finishing 3rd. This heap of silver-ware is a well-earned reward for the commitment shown on and off the water, and we hope to see a similar performance at BUCS Head of the River in February.

- Matty Kilborn, SW Captain

Novice Men’ did SURC proud in their first race. There were huge efforts all round in their first taste of the pain cave. 3 came in the top 10, and 6 in top 18. The bronze medal was brought in by Tom Clark, with Nick Burrel missing out to his team mate by 1 second, coming fourth. Biggest Blow of the day goes to Nadir, and a great effort was put in by the relay team. A really good start to the season with great squad attitude starting to form.

- Sam Armistead & Emily Cossey, NM Captains

Finally our Novice Women smashed the event, with great performances and effort put in by all. Although the women didn't medal, had Anna Preach come 4th in lightweight women championship 2k. They all did incredibly well and almost everyone got their goal split or better!

- Issy Emms & Ben Seers, NW Captains

Well done to all, and we look forward to our senior squads racing at York Small Boats Head this Sunday.
