After a long successful year of training and racing, we sent a team to Henley Women's Regatta - the most prestigious and difficult race of the year. We entered one double scull (Stroke: Raminta Virzintaite) and one Coxed four (Cox: Boo Latham, Stroke: Lucy Hayes).
The Double scull of Shorten/Virzintaite made history by being the first purely SURC crew to ever qualify for this race, which has been the goal of the squad for many years now. Although they were knocked out in the first round against Drexel Uni USA, we are all incredibly pleased with their performance which shows the clear progression of our squad.
The Coxed Four was entered into the brand new Development category of this race and despite being a crew made up of half novices from this year they held their own, getting a good place and smashing their personal best time for that distance. The four's progress shows not only the commitment and tenacity of the rowers in the boat but also the incredible dedication of their cox, Boo Latham who only started coxing this year.
