Gigs, Sarah, Harriet and Martha will be time trialing to qualify for the Cathy Cruickshank Trophy in the Aspirational Academic 4- category, and Nicole will be racing in her Sheffield colours as part of a composite Championship 8+ in the Ron Needs Challenge Cup. SURC had a great weekend at BUCS Regatta which saw some fantastic racing and even a BUCS Medal. The Senior Women travelled to Nottingham this weekend to compete in BUCS regatta and came away with a number of exceptional results. Both the quad and the 1st eight were able to show there skill in the c finals of their respective categories which is the highest final the squad has achieved in living memory. The senior men took to the tideway last weekend and managed to retain their top 100 status. SURC are now 5 days into our 12 days of volunteering and fundraising. We've been doing plenty to raise money such as 24 hours of erging at the station and a 100km bike ride, and putting in hours of volunteering at hosts around Sheffield, including schools, and this evening's dinner at Foodhall / Sheffield. All of our fundraising goes to the amazing Sheffield Children's Hospital and Charity, who have given us the amazing privilege of our very own snowflake on the famous walls

After the unfortunate cancellation of White Rose Head, SURC paid a visit to the River Weaver and went head to head with Liverpool, Manchester and Lancaster. York small boats head was a successful day for the senior men following on from their success at BUCS indoors. Two 4+s, a 4-, a 4x and a double were entered. In the 4+ category our 4s managed to claim 1st and 2nd place (out of 8 in band 1) in a challenging field against other competitive universities including York and Manchester. SURC had a great time in York on Saturday, with members of all four squads taking part in BUCS Indoors. After a rocky start for the senior men at Dee Head 2 weeks ago, BUCS indoors proved a great success for the squad with the relay team (Sam Armistead, Matt Farrow, John Gunton and Luke Green) easily achieving a gold medal in a competitive field. Our Senior Women came out fighting for the first race of the season. the squad showed an excellent attitude during pre-season and their lasting commitment paid dividends as they were able to finish 1st and 4th in the Band 2 Women’s Eights. Most notably, the ladies manged to pip a very experienced Royal Chester Crew to the line by 3 seconds which demonstrates the scale of the progress made this year. Venue is tbc, but it will be a formal, black tie evening dinner, attended by SURC Alumni, and current SURC Committee. Nicole Lamb is back after a great time in Shanghai after making her presence known in the women’s single sculls at the FISU World University Rowing Championships. Nicole made it into the A final, in which she put a great performance, only narrowly missing out on a medal and coming 4th. Nicole Lamb, one of SURC’s senior women, set off today to Shanghai for the World University Rowing Championships. Nicole is one of the 32 students from 14 universities in the Great Britain team for the 15th FISU World University Rowing Championships. Following an intense training camp, Nicole will compete in the single scull for the three-day event from 10-12 August. We’re wishing the best of luck to Nicole, and all the GB FISU team for this exciting few weeks in China!

To all our followers, I am sad to announce that we were unsuccessful in our quest for qualification to race at Henley Royal Regatta. Our race was a tale of two halves: after a slight wobble in the crosswind off the Island we settled into a good rhythm and went to work between the Barrier and Fawley.
